Field Marshal's Report

Carnage – We Go To 11
Check out the GM Challenge: Heavy Metal : Rock N Role!

Greetings Role Playing Fans!
We plan on offering you all a fine selection of original, themed and sanctioned games this year.

Last year, we had a great array of games, ranging from Jedi Knight Overnight Adventures to some great themed Shadowrun adventures. Thanks to Brad Younie for running an extra game to make some attendees very happy. The RPGA games ran solid and steady. I would like to thank all the Game Masters who ran scenarios. It's your time, creativity, and passion that makes this con great.

And from what I hear, you do a pretty darn good job. Rock Solid! The last thing I want to say about 2007 is this. We hit capacity with our RPGs! Great Job! You managed to fill all our space and sprawl into the dining room.

I encourage any Game Master to submit games this year. What I hear from the players at Carnage is that they like the variety of RPGs that we offer. And we do! I believe that Carnage Con Attendees will try and play in games both new and old. You Game Masters never cease to bring a variety of systems, genres, and great scenarios. Keep it moving for 2008!

First and Fair Warning!
GMs – Submissions Due July 19th!

IMPORTANT : Maxed Slot Criteria: In the past we usually have a few slots where space becomes tight. Since we hit our max in terms of space last year, I expect there will be some more competition for prime slots in 2008.

What can you expect ? If you request to run a game during any slot that gets maxed, you may be asked to change to a non-maxed time slot. Here's Dr.Nik's Criteria for determining Slot choice in no particular order:

  • a. How long have you been a Carnage GM?
  • b. How many players can play in the game?
  • c. What level of Innovation / Creativity does the module appear to offer?
  • d. Date of your submission? (Pre July 4 – Check PLUS! , July 19 – Check, After July 19 – check minus
  • e. Overall convention game balance
  • f. What, if any, other slots are you running scenarios?
  • g. Do you have a backstage pass?

I expect the following slots to be maxed:

  • Friday Night (Slot B)
  • Saturday Afternoon (Slot E)
  • Saturday Night (Slot F)

There are some slots that typically have less contest for space. This list is, in my opinion, best to worst, it is only my opinion. Slots that offer great players and little contest for space:

  • Friday Afternoon – You'd be surprised how many people show up Thursday night and get the convention started first thing Friday! This is a great Slot.
  • Saturday Morning - Lots of people show up first thing to game. Plan a lazy character selection and intro for the caffeine to kick in, and run a wow Saturday morning fun game.
  • Sunday Afternoon – Did you know that there is a very late 1pm checkout at Carnage Con? Ease on Out, with a late afternoon game. Just don't plan on anything that is a very long or horribly complex module. This is a great time for light action, easy to grasp fun games. Typically I run my Sunday afternoon games slightly abridged to 3 hours, which most folks appreciate.
  • Sunday Morning – This is a great slot if you want to get an early retreat on Sunday. Hit the sack by midnight, and get up to game! You can do the late checkout after your game and ease on down the road home.
